Summer Conditioning Camp Info

UNFORTUNATELY THE 14TH ANNUAL SUMMER PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELED AND WILL RESUME NEXT YEAR.  SORRY!

Due to the ongoing conditions associated with the Covid-19, the 2020 North Cypress Running Club Summer Youth Conditioning Program will alter the typical schedule to accommodate precautions needed to ensure that all participants are kept safe and protected from potential transmission of Covid-19.  In light of the circumstances at hand, we will make the following adjustments to our typical training schedule to ensure that we do not have too many athletes in the training area at the same time for the first 3 weeks of the program.

Additionally, Parents should monitor the health of their children and not send them to the program if they exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19. If they experience any of the following symptoms, they should seek COVID-19 testing promptly and report results to the program given the implications for other children, families, and staff. Such symptoms include:

Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat, Loss of taste or smell, Diarrhea, Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit, Known close contact with a person who is lab confirmed to have COVID-19.

The adjusted schedule will be as follows: for the first three weeks (June 15 – July 3), we will have two training groups to help spread the athletes out. The first group will consist of all high school athletes (incoming 9th graders – seniors) and will last from 6:15am-7:15am.  The second group will consist of all Incoming 8th graders and below and they will train from 7:30am-8:30am.  We will keep our normal off week from July 6th -  July 10th).

If things look better per the state guidelines, we will hopefully resume our normal summer schedule after the week off by bringing everyone together from 6:30 am – 8:00 am for the remaining 4 weeks of the training program (July 13th-August 7th).

Additional changes will take place as follows:

  1.       The camp will remain Monday – Friday as it has been in years prior.
  2.       The price of the camp will be reduced to $100.00 per athlete attending for this year.
  3.       No water will be provided by the camp; everyone must bring their own water to prevent unnecessary touching of things that others are touching, and/or sharing food/beverages. Please bring plenty of your own water and snacks.  DO NOT SHARE.
  4.       All activities will be structured in a way to encourage participants to keep social distancing as best as we can.
  5.       No parents or guardians will be allowed to visit the camp during or between camp sessions, please remain in your vehicle, except to drop-off and pick-up athletes. This is a public park and there will be park patrons walking/running/biking the trails.  Parents are allowed to walk/run/bike on the trails as well, but they will not be allowed to come around other participants. If you need to speak to Coach Zarate, please arrange that with him (cell: 281-413-9027) so that you do not come around other athletes.
  6.       As usual, there will be an athletic trainer on site in the event that anyone needs medical attention.  However, it will be the responsibility of each household to monitor each participant for sickness daily.  If any symptoms are experienced by the athlete, we ask that they do not come to the training session until they are better for the safety of others. The athletic trainer on site will be for emergencies only.
  7.       Once the training session has finished, all participants will be encouraged to exit the park and will be discouraged from hanging out.
  8.       Restroom facilities are expected to be available, but that will be dependent on the park.  We have been told that if the pools open up, then we should be able to have access to the restrooms on site.  However, like in years past, I strongly encourage everyone to use the restroom at home prior to coming to the camp because the restroom can and have been locked without notice in the past.
  9.       Like in past year, this camp is open to all athletes in all sports and not just cross country runners.
  10.    Athletes must reside in the Cy Woods HS attendance zone.

Again, these are unusual times, but with everyone’s cooperation, we can and will hold a safe and productive training camp.  Registration will open up shortly, sign up by clicking this link: https://www.signmeup.com/reg/form/133928/registration.  Please feel free to reach out to me with any specific questions that you may have. I look forward to getting the groups together again and hope this is the start to getting back to our normal training routines.

Happy Running,

Coach Zarate
